We continue our Death Trapp voyage, this time with a Belgian Tripel. It wasn't until after WWII that the style was created, although it's not clear where.

It is more or less a creation of the Belgian Trappist Monk community. Tripels are commonly light pale, which probably came about by the influence of pilsners and their massive popularity of the time.

The Trappist monks at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in the town of Westmalle brewed up a batch of strong golden colored brew--Trappistbier Tripel.

Tripel derives its name from the use of up to three times the malt than a standard Trappist "Simple." Fruit, esters and spicy phenols dominate. Alcohol is masked quite evil-like and deceiving. Since we're not monks, we don't call it Trappist. Tap that Trapp instead.
